Blonde, white, and extremely thin. Welcome to the secret world of Brandy Melville. Founded in Italy by Silvio Marsan and his son, Stephan Marsan in 1994, Brandy is a ultra popular teenage girl brand. Brandy is notorious for the “one size fits most” mantra. However, how can something be one size fits most? How can a brand say that a size 0 or 2 will fit most teenage girls, when the average size is a 14? This makes no sense. Brandy Melville discriminates against different body shapes.

Is their something wrong with being skinny. Some girls can be skinny because of medical reasons and you are saying Brandy Melville discriminates. Some girls are so small that all they can fit in is 0 and 2 jeans. And to call them skeletons is outrages because skinny girls get made fun for look weird and people say all the time eat a burger or eat this and that even though they do and just can't gain weight. We were all born in different body types and we have to except that, and just because Brandy Melville has skinny models doesn't mean anything because that is a body type.

This isn’t saying anything bad about skinny people, it’s saying that Brandy Melville is making their clothing only for people who are skinny, which will make those who are not skinny think, “why aren’t I like that?” They’re going to blame themselves and try and force themselves to become skinny in unearthly ways just to fit the standard that Brandy sets, which is to be skinny. To calm them skeletons is obviously not ok, but that’s the point that they want to get across.

I'm not really sure where I stand on this matter, but I just wanted to point out a question I have. What is the responsibility of the company? To make as many people happy, or produce their type of clothing? I'd say the first. We don't get mad at stores such as Lane Bryant for only selling plus-sized clothing. But at the same time, perhaps they have to because of stores like BM. As I said before, I'm not sure where I stand on the sizing matter. But I do stand firmly against the fact that almost all their models feature white women. That's not okay. Anyway, I enjoyed reading your thoughts on the subject. Thanks!

He's not trying to sell to every consumer hes trying to sell to a specific customer, the skinny ones. Why wont he just create more sizes? I dont know it might have something to do with the business.

Well I think that brandy melville should carry size-exclusive clothes but I believe that the brand was also made for women who cant gain weight because some people can't gain weight and it is hard to try to find something that's small and is "trendy".

Honestly, I couldn’t agree less. There are stores specifically for plus sized women, and I think Brandy is the way it is from a differentiation and production strategy. In no way are the clothes ever advertised as “one size fits most” they are just “one size. Period. By creating items in only one size it allows customers to spend less time looking for a size and employees to spend less time organizing the store as there is no need to sort for size. Different items fit different, and unfortunately some items will not fit some people. I don’t think it’s discriminatory- I find it relatively practical as it is the reason they are able to keep costs low while providing mostly 100% cotton items :)
